Darkness

Darkness

Our social media stuff is pretty much a travelogue these days. Hopefully a “warts and all” style chronicle. It was started to let my mom know where we were and what we were doing. It has continued after her passing as a record of our travels and a means to wave at friends and family from afar, and stay connected. Hopefully have some fun, share some beauty, celebrate life, be positive and grateful. Encourage nonconformity and a bit of risk taking. Life outside the box.

Lately it has been tough to write. So many of our friends and family are now in a previously unimaginable situation. We try to focus on the here and now and the present moment but there is no escaping the heavy cloud that has descended over our former community, and the country as a whole. These are frightening times and there is no escape from the darkness, even down here. (Who knows, we may even be in the middle of an attack down here in Mexico any day.)

The photo is just so this will cross-post to Instagram, not for oohs and aahs. Not feeling the urge to post beach pics today, but I suppose in future I’ll continue to post “as usual” for the time being, even though nothing is “usual”. I don’t want to give in to the temptation to add to the already incendiary atmosphere. We are reading and appreciate all the updates, sharing, and information that we get from all of you. So very hard to watch from afar, cannot imagine how you feel being there. We are there in spirit with our friends and family and hope you stay strong and safe.

There is no escape from the darkness, even down here.
Now: the Southlands
Morning—and southward
Next stop: Twain country
South along the river
One more night in town
And then the plan went sideways
Now turn up the music
Keep driving south
