It still feels like the most improbable thing, that I can live and work like this. Undreamed of, ever, just a few short years ago. The place we are encamped has no cell service, no power. The magical combination of Starlink, solar power, and a backup generator allows me to literally be anywhere and do client work and personal art. There are minor space and setup inconveniences and sometimes schedules need to juggle to accommodate busy times but I have managed to find a whole new kind of “work/life balance” that suits us just fine. Most people we meet on the road are either retired, on sabbatical, or just taking a break from the grind, but there are a number that work in various ways, from hourly to entrepreneurial types. I have no plans to “retire” at any time soon, (of course I will make art forever). Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to not do client work but for now this works. Obviously living expenses are low so though I feel as well-employed as I’ve ever been, slowing down would be easily doable at any time. For now, time to get back to problem solving, pointing, clicking, and uploading gigabytes and listening to the waves and the birds and feeling the warm sun. Thankful.
